Deck Upgrade For Style and Function in Sugar Creek Township

When homeowners reach out to Archadeck of West Central & Southwest Ohio to upgrade their deck, it can be for a myriad of reasons. Many times it is because their existing deck is aging and in need of replacement. In some cases it can be because they have simply outgrown their current design or are looking for a stylish way to add flair to their backyard space. With the case of these Sugar Creek Township homeowners, we can check off all of the above as the reason they contacted Archadeck.

When we met with these homeowners, they were looking to upgrade their current deck and bring it into the 21st century. Although they were pleased with the footprint of their existing deck design, they wanted to convert their maintenance-demanding wooden deck into a modern low maintenance space. They also wanted to give their backyard a stylish upgrade.

— Before

Since the substructure of the old deck was in good structural shape, Archadeck of West Central & Southwest Ohio was able to redeck their existing deck to give it a new look and all the benefits of using a synthetic decking product that required little maintenance.

What is Redecking?

Redecking is the process of renovating a deck by using the existing substructure and replacing the decking boards, railing, and/or steps. Re-decking is only possible if a deck’s substructure is structurally sound and up to code.

Redecking for Aesthetics and Functionality

For this project, the homeowners chose to go with Envisions decking. We used Envisions is the color spiced teak and rustic walnut in combination to achieve the intricate patterns you see on this beautiful new deck. We also installed a TimberTech builder rail take the low maintenance quality of the deck a step farther. To top off the new look of the deck we used an Envisions rail cap end with aluminum balusters and installed a custom deck gate, too!

Benefits of Redecking

When a homeowner comes to us and requests we create a new outdoor living space for them, it is sometimes possible that their existing deck can be re-decked, resurfaced, or upgraded and in some cases even expanded upon to achieve their goal. As the area’s premier deck builder, custom-designed decks are among our many specialties. With this in mind, we can often expand upon and customize what is already present in your backyard space in order to deliver the space you have in mind.

One crucial benefit of re-decking is the cost savings. If your deck needs renovation or updating and your substructure can be utilized for the new deck, you could save as much as 20-40% on the total cost of the project with re-decking versus total deck replacement. Also, just like this Sugar Creek Township homeowner, many of our clients want the low-maintenance element of upgrading from traditional PT wood to composite/synthetic decking materials, and re-decking is a cost-effective way to get this upgrade.

Another important benefit of redecking is timing. Since this type of project requires a less-involved process than total deck replacement — construction and administrative time are substantially reduced because the main structure stays in place.
