Ready for a Deck "Do-over"? Archadeck of West Central & Southwest Ohio Can Help

There are many times in life we could use a do-over, but have you ever thought of your backyard deck design as one of those experiences you could revisit? Let Dayton deck builder Archadeck of West Central & Southwest Ohio introduce you to the concept of the deck do-over.

Wood deck

While “do-over” might sound like a child’s game, sometimes adults need a do-over, too! We’re not suggesting there was anything wrong with your deck in the beginning. Whether your home had a deck when you bought it, or you added your deck later, it might have been perfect for you at the time.

“If I were redesigning my deck today, I would … "

What about now? Are there things you would do differently if you could re-design your Dayton or Cincinnati backyard deck? Does it seem too small now? Do you wish the deck had separate areas for dining and lounging instead of one spot for all activities? Would you like to add an outdoor kitchen to your deck or just a simple built-in counter with prep space for your grill or smoker? Maybe you’ve realized over the years that having only one staircase is inconvenient. Given the size of your deck, you might wish you had stairs at both ends of the deck so your guests—or your grandmother—didn’t have to walk all the way around.
Composite deck

What else would you do differently if you were designing a new deck for your Southwest Ohio home? Include built-in bench seating in the design? Change out the deck railings and pickets for something thinner and less conspicuous? Add a hot tub or a pergola?

We have heard from homeowners that today’s most popular deck furniture tends to be oversized and take up more room on a deck. Sofas, sectionals, cocktail tables—suddenly, you need more space. And if you want to add a fire table, which are amazing by the way, how do you make room for it without sacrificing comfortable seating?

Solutions for Dayton and Cincinnati Homeowners Wanting a Deck “Do-over”

As your Dayton and Cincinnati deck builder, Archadeck of West Central & Southwest Ohio has a couple of suggestions for solving the need for a deck “do-over.”
Composite deck

First, we can replace your existing deck with a new one that’s larger and includes the features you want now. If the substructure of your existing deck is still in good condition, we won’t even need to remove your entire deck to start over. For redecking, we only remove the decking boards that form your deck’s surface. We replace the boards with new decking—even low-maintenance composite decking if you want it. In the process, we can also increase the size of your deck, add another staircase and replace your railing system with a newer style of railing.

Covered porch

Or, if you’re interested in making even more of a change, we can convert your existing deck into a screened porch or open (covered) porch and build a new, larger deck adjacent to the porch. Then you would have the best of both worlds, shade protection when you want it, and a space open to the stars when you prefer to be closer to nature. With a covered or screened porch, no longer would you have to move the parties and outdoor meals indoors when the rain shows up.

Finally, if you want to get completely carried away, we can convert your existing deck into a 3-season room by installing an Eze Breeze convertible enclosure system with sliding and removable panels. Then, we’ll design and build a bigger and better deck connected to that. You may be ready for this kind of upgrade! With a three-season room, you can keep the sliding window panels closed in cooler weather and open them up to have a screened porch when it’s comfortable outside.
