When it came to replacing the existing deck, the homeowners wished to eliminate the need for a space that was enclosed with railings. To accommodate their desire to open up their view, we gave them a new deck surrounded with progressive steps, which allowed us to leave the space unimpeded by railings. The deck takes on the air of a stage, and we imagine this family has set the scene for hours of entertaining and private relaxation in their outdoor living space. Such an open space is apt to be staged for holidays or summertime entertaining with friends and family sitting on the deck or convened on the steps for drinks and conversation.
